Sustainable energy and clean air

A new neighbourhood at Bedminster Green offers the potential to contribute to Bristol’s aims to be carbon neutral by 2030 and for cleaner air. This will be achieved by seeking to minimise energy demand through design with good levels of thermal efficiency, installation of renewable energy technologies, and connecting to the district heat network.

The east-west orientation of Malago Road and Dalby Avenue, designed to include frontage gaps and planting, will create street scale ventilation and can help towards absorbing emissions. Being aware of the direction of the prevailing wind, the variation in height and gaps between buildings will help to mitigate ‘canyon effects’ while making sure natural ventilation of streets and spaces.

Minimising parking provision (with management measures to avoid overspill to adjoining streets), providing attractive opportunities for walking, cycling and travel by public transport will contribute to cleaner air.
