Trees and landscaping along Malago Road and Dalby Avenue

Work is currently underway to transform the Bedminster Green area to make it easier for residents to walk, wheel, and use public transport. This includes; the reopening of Malago Road and Dalby Avenue to two-way traffic at the beginning of the year and with the works to transform the area largely complete, new street trees are to be planted in verges between the updated wider pavements.

Sustainable drainage is now in place to provide water the planted areas and help prevent rainwater runoff from overwhelming the sewer systems.

Trees and general planting are due to take place before spring 2025. Alongside the planting of trees and shrubs, the grass and bulb mix will be reinstated on the green itself and on the verges along Malago Road. This will see a mix of shade-loving wildflowers planted to create a wildlife friendly threshold between the road and the pavement. In other areas a mix of wildflower and grass seed will be used.

A native hedgerow will be planted along the back of Little Paradise Park to provide habitats for local wildlife and, where appropriate, climbing shrubs will be used to create screens along Whitehouse Lane.

The trees being planted are London Plane, Oak, Maple, Cherry Blossom, Alder, Elm, and Sweet Gum.

Once in place, trees and plants will be maintained by the council’s parks team.
