Dalby Avenue and Malago Road overnight closure – UPDATE

As a part of the Bedminster Green Highways Improvement works, Dalby Avenue and Malago Road will be transformed to make it easier for people to walk, cycle, and use public transport.

The project includes a new continuous bus lane along Malago Road and Dalby Avenue, new and improved bus stops, upgraded pedestrian and cycle crossings, new and improved cycle lanes, and resurfaced roads and pavements. There will also be more street trees and planting, wider pavements, and sustainable urban drainage.

Extensive work is being undertaken to realign Malago Road, divert utilities, and install the District Heat pipework, while still allowing one-way traffic. To allow for the next phase of these works, Dalby Avenue and Malago Road will need to be closed for overnight works from 29 May.

In the daytime the road will be open to one-way traffic as usual.

The overnight work will be carried out in two phases.

• The first phase will take place on multiple nights from 29 May to 5 June, during the hours of 7pm and 6am. This phase will involve raising and lowering ironworks, like manhole covers, to be level with the new road alignment.
• The second phase will take place before the end of August. Detailed information about the closure will be provided two weeks before any overnight closures. This phase will involve resurfacing the road and completing the road markings..

During the closure, buses leaving the city centre will not be stopping on Bedminster Parade and will travel down Catherine Mead Street, Dean Lane and Cannon Street before heading onto West Street and St John’s Road to follow the usual routes. Buses heading into the city centre will be unaffected and will continue to use East Street.

There will be a signposted diversion in place for motor traffic while the road is closed. Pedestrian access along Dalby Avenue and Malago Road will be maintained at all times and businesses in the Malago Trade Park will be accessible during opening hours for the period of works.

Malago Road and Dalby Avenue will be reopened to two-way traffic by the end of August 2024.
