Bedminster Green Highways update – December 2024
As work to improve the routes into and around Bedminster Green continues, here is an update on what changes you can expect to see over the coming months.
Little Paradise, Stafford Street and Leicester Street
As part of the Stafford Yard development, Dandara Living has extended Leicester Street, and opened it to pedestrians and vehicles, to join Little Paradise to Mill Lane.
The works include additional cycling infrastructure on Stafford Street which will connect to the Malago Greenway and on to the city centre.
Dandara Living were due to start planned work on Stafford Street on Monday 25 November. However, due to recent bad weather, the works will now begin on Monday 13 January 2025. The delay to this work beginning means Stafford Street will be closed to traffic until end of February 2025. Access to Mill Lane is still possible via Little Paradise and Leicester Street.
Clarke Street (north) will remain closed between Philip Street and Bartley Street until Monday 3 February to allow for road resurfacing, repaving, and footway improvements. This extended closure is due to the recent bad weather causing a delay in the works starting when originally planned.
There will be no access to Clarke Street (north) for vehicles during these works. All road users will be able to access businesses in Windmill Farm Business Centre via Bartley Street. Pedestrians and cyclists can also access the area by using the new footpath leading to Metal Works from Dalby Avenue and Whitehouse Lane.
As well as work taking place to create a one-way road on Whitehouse Lane and Hereford Street for general traffic, work is also taking place to create a segregated cycle route on the northern side of the road (opposite existing businesses). This will see the pavements completely replaced, the retarmacking of the road, and the installation of new drainage.
Preparatory works at Clarke Street (south) and Windmill Hill City Farm were completed earlier this year to help reduce the construction period.
On Thursday 12 December the council’s highways contractor began work on the southern edge of the green along Whitehouse Lane.
