Hereford Street and Whitehouse Lane works update

As a part of the next phase of the Bedminster Green Highways Improvement works, Whitehouse Lane and Hereford Street will be transformed to improve safety and make it easier for people to walk and cycle.

From Friday 9 August Whitehouse Lane and Hereford Street will be one way only. The route will flow from Malago Road to Hereford Street towards Whitehouse Lane, with the one-way route ending at Philip Street.

The project includes upgrading pedestrian and cycle crossings, a new and improved cycle lane linking to Whitehouse Street, new dedicated loading bays, and resurfaced roads and pavements. There will also be new street trees and planting, wider pavements, and all drainage will be repaired and re-installed.

Malago Road and Dalby Avenue will open to two-way traffic when the works begin on Whitehouse Lane and Hereford Street on Friday 9 August, this will ease traffic and facilitate the works on Whitehouse Lane and Hereford Street. For more information, please see our Malago Road re-opening post.

Drivers will be able to access Hereford Street from both directions on Malago Road meaning drivers will be able to access Whitehouse Lane without entering the Clean Air Zone.

While Malago Road and Dalby Avenue works are largely complete, landscaping and tree planting will follow in the coming months. The trees cannot be planted in any other season except the winter. As other plants are placed around many of the trees, the low-level plants will also be planted in winter to save them being damaged during the tree planting.

To report any issues with the barriers or temporary lights around Bedminster Green, please email eastbedminster@bristol.gov.uk or phone ETM (traffic management) on 0117 953 3654.
